The WIAA Track and Field State Championship meet was held this past weekend at the University of Wisconsin- La Crosse in sweltering conditions that challenged the spectators and athletes alike. There were many amazing performances and Ryan Johnson was able to take 3rd place in the discus with a throw of 153-05. Ryan also competed in the shot put and threw 45-10.25 placing 15th. The 3200 meter relay team of Caleb Andrews, Stephen Monette, Nile Merton and Jake McLeod ran well but couldn't top their performance of the week before turning in an 8:25.07, placing a respectable 15th overall.
I am so proud of these boys and they way they competed all year. I look forward to next season and hope to take more athletes as our program continues to grow! If you are interested in a summer conditioning workout program, let me know. Have a great summer!

Girls Team results:
Ashley Snider Stuns WIAA Region by Winning the 400 Meter Dash!!
The biggest surprise of the evening was when senior Ashley Snider won the 400 meter dash, annihilating the competition by almost two seconds. She had never competed in the race during the regular season and came out of nowhere to win. The top 4 finishers from the Regional Meet are able to compete at Sectionals in Colby WI on Thursday. Top performers at the regional meet who will be competing at sectionals are: girls 4X200 meter relay team consisting of Marie Wothe (jr), Lydia King (soph), Sophie Montana (fr) and Nicole Young (fr), setting a new personal record of 1:54.03 placed 3rd, jumior Kayla Tryggestad placed 4th in the discus with a throw of 97-09, sophomore Kayla Faschingbauer placed 4th in the 3200 meter run with a time of 12:48.68, and freshman Nicole Young placed 4th in both the 100meter dash (13.4) and 200 meter dash (27.1).
Other top performers of the evening who will not be going to sectionals are, freshman Sophie Montana, 5th in the 200m (28.1), freshman Jessica Hendrickson, 5th in the 400m dash 91:07.74), 4X800 meter relay team 5th, of Katrina Monson (jr) , Ashley Snider (sr), Kayla Faschingbauer (soph) and Michelle Ritten (jr) ran a 10:38.5, sophomore Tosha Thompson, 5th in the shot put 33-09.5. Every 5th place finisher set a personal record for the year so even though their performance did not qualify them for sectionals they still gave a performance record (pr) for their event. At the beginning of the year we really didn’t know what we had in regards to talent for this crew. I am so proud of how these athletes have consistently improved throughout the year. Having Ashley win the 400 meter dash was such a boost for the team and we are excited to compete at sectionals.
Boys Team results:
Ryan Johnson Wins the Shot Put and Discus at the WIAA Regional Meet!!
Ryan Johnson (jr) was able to handle the pressure being seeded first in the region for the discus and shot. Even though he wasn’t feel well he was still able to best the competition by throwing a 50-04 in the shot put and 167-01 for the discus, just shy of his personal records in both events. The top 4 finishers will be competing at sectionals on Thursday in Colby, WI. Top performers who placed at the regional meet, preparing to compete at Colby are: boys 4X800 relay team, Caleb Andrews (sr), Nile Merton (sr), Stephen Monette (sr) and Jake McLeod (jr) improved their personal record by 2 seconds to 8:28.21 earning them a 2nd place finish. Jake McLeod placed 2nd in the 800 meter (2:04.01) and Stephen Monette also placed 2nd in the 1600meter run (4:41.31). Caleb Andrews placed 4th in the 3200 meter run shattering his personal best time by 8 seconds to run a 10:30.76. Joe Jasperson (jr) improved his shot put throw by 2ft 4inches earning him a 4th place finish and a trip to Colby to compete. Our boys team set 13 personal records at this meet.
Overall (boys and girls team) we have 15 athletes who will be attending the sectional meet competing in 13 different events. If you would have asked me at the beginning of the season how many events we would be competing in at sectionals I would have answered either 4 or 5. To be competing is so many can only be attributed to the work ethic of these athletes and their desire to improve. We have competed in weather that should have torn muscles with the cold – meets cancelled because of snow and they still persevered. We started the season with 61 athletes and ended with 59. We only get to read about the top 25/30 athletes each week but know that this team may be young but I am excited about the future. They are strong kids who are willing to work hard and parents of these athletes should be proud. Now, on to Sectionals!!!
