Ryan Johnson is Middle Border Conference Champion in the Shot and Discus
Amery Track athletes gave some of their best performances of the season last night at the Middle Border Conference track meet in New Richmond. Our top boy finishers were Ryan Johnson who dominated in the throws by winning the shot with a distance of 48-04 ft and the discus with a throw of 157-11 ft: senior and WIAA Scholar Athlete Stephen Monette, who placed second in the 1600 meter run with a personal best time of 4:41.31: and the boys 4X800 meter relay team of Caleb Andrews, Stephen Monette, Nile Merton and Jake McLeod also finished 2nd just .4 tenths of a second behind top seeded Osceola. The 4X800 relay team shaved 15 seconds off of their personal best time and finished with a time of 8:30.69. Junior Jake McLeod ran a gutsy 800 meter run, pushing the pack with his speed right until the last 20 meters where he was clipped by two runners, giving him 3rd place with a time of 2:04.3. Senior Caleb Andrews also ran a tough race and placed 3rd in the 3200 meter run with a time of 10:42.2.
Top performers for the girls track program were 4th place finishers Kayla Fashingbauer in the 3200 meter run with a time of 12:34.5, Kayla Tryggestad in the discus with a throw of 95-11 ft., and the 4X200 meter relay team of Marie Wothe, Lydia King, Sophie Montana and Nicole Young who chopped 3 seconds off of their personal record running a 1:55.8. Other top performers finishing 5th were: 4X100 meter relay (Marie Wothe, Lydia King, Alyssa McLean and Sophie Montana) 55:05, the 4X400 meter relay (Ashley Snider, Katrina Monson, Ashley Doroff and Jessica Hendrickson) 4:38.09 and Tosha Thompson in the shot put with a distance of 30-09.5 ft. Our next varsity competition will be the regional meet on Monday, May 21st in Somerset. The JV will be competing in their conference meet in Prescott on Thursday, May 19th.
